This wine is clear and bright with greenish tints. On the nose intense aromas of peaches and nectarines mingle with ripe citrus fruit and herbal nuances. On the palate, it has a creamy texture with great concentration of flavour. A lively acidity invites a long and balanced finish.

Eschewing traditional high-trained pergolas, the Quinta de Azevedo vineyards were devised using a modern cordon-trained system. Clear and bright coppery brown colour with golden nuances and greenish reflections. On the nose it´s very characteristic, exuberant and very ethereal, full of balsamic notes, spices and dry fruits. On the palate it´s very powerful, fresh and concentrated with a long aftertaste and retronasal full of balsamic notes, exotic woods and old rum.

In the 17th century Verdelho was considered the most representative variety in Madeira Island and some even say that may be originated from the island. Verdelho produces a wine must with moderated sugar levels, noticeable acidity and produces a mediumdry style of Madeira wine.

A bottling of Madeira from the 1934 from Cossart, the oldest company in the Madeira wine business.
Established in 1745, Cossart Gordon & Co. represents the oldest company in the Madeira trade. It was originally founded by Scotsmen, Grancis Newton and William Gordon, who were later joined by William Cossart in 1808. The company established a reputation as suppliers of the finest of Madeiras mainly due to their trade relationship with American colonies.

This variety requires deep soils with some degree of moisture. It has low yields per ha and early ripening. Grapes are normally picked by the end of September, and produce gold coloured medium dry elegant wines which have a tropical and exotic character.

In 1856 Henry Price Miles left England with his family and arrived in Madeira. Having worked as an apprentice since the age of 12 under the tutelage of James Rutherford, he acquired sound knowledge and experience of the workings of the Madeira trade. Leacock's - verdelho

John Leacock sailed to Madeira from the United Kingdom (after the death of his father) in 1741 and at the age of 15 became the youngest apprentice at the firm of Madeira merchants, Catanach and Murdoch staying until his contract expired on 11 March 1749. During his apprenticeship he had been in constant contact with an old school friend, John Patient, residing at that time in Charles Town, South Carolina who suggested that they themselves should commence trading. Leacock agreed and this marks the birth of the now world famous company.
